We Hear: 2013 Shelby GT500 To Produce Around 650 Horsepower

Fasten your seat-belts, kids. While we will take this with a grain of salt,  the upcoming refresh to Dearborn’s demon that is the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will utilize a 5.0L engine, modified in a way that will unleash around 650 horsepower, making it the most powerful Mustang ever by far, even leapfrogging the legendary Ford GT supercar in power. If true, the upcoming Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 that is expected to cradle 550 horsepower will face a futile effort in dethroning the storied ponycar.

The spy photo above reveals an intercooler setup for the GT500, which we believe points to a supercharger being strapped to the Mustang GT’s 5.0L Coyote V8. For more spy photos, visit SEMA.org.
