A Ford First: SYNC Controlled Internet Radio Via Slacker

Ford is expanding the SYNC infotainment system by being the first to integrate voice controls for Slacker, a user-customizable internet radio application. This feature will be available to all drivers whose vehicles are capable of SYNC Applink.

Slacker, for those who have never used it, is a personalized online music program very similar to Pandora. It allows you to set up custom stations based on artist, genre, etc. The main difference here from Pandora is that Slacker also offers 150 preset stations and expands into talk radio such as ABC News, ESPN Radio, and comedy stations, just to name a few.

Owners running the SYNC-capable version of Slacker on their smartphones will be able to set favorites, skip songs, and even ban songs from a playlist with simple voice commands.Currently, SYNC-capable versions of Slacker are available for Blackberry and Android users, while a version is still pending approval for Apple’s iOS system.
