It’s already been established that we’d love for the Ford EcoSport to make its way to the United States. Whether that will happen is still an unknown, but what we do know is the story behind the creation of the subcompact ute.
Designed by Ford’s South American team that’s very proficient in small cars, the EcoSport was fashioned for global markets from the get-go. And in the words of EcoSport Chief Designer Ehab Kaoud, the team wanted to differentiate the car from other products in the marketplace. It also focused on aerodynamics, which translates well into fuel efficiency. The resulting product stands out compared to pretty much all other vehicles on the street and looks right in India as well as in downtown Sao Paulo.
From a marketing perspective, the global B-platformed EcoSport provides a great opportunity for first-time car buyers in India by offering off-road capability, great fuel efficiency, and higher stance for better visibility. In other words, the diminutive CUV offers unique features and design in India’s burgeoning automotive sector. And while that all sounds great, we’d love for The Blue Oval to bring the EcoSport to North America, pretty please?!
