Of all places, Ford has decided to pull the sheet off the all-new EcoSport global crossover at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi, India. The vehicle is meant to be the latest One Ford concept, and will be found in several global markets.
The skeleton of the EcoSport is Ford’s global B-segment platform shared with the Fiesta, which the company hopes will underpin over 2 million vehicles worldwide in the coming years. At the time of this writing, Ford plans on building the small crossover in Brazil, as well as India in as little as six months from now.
Powering the B-segment SUV will be Ford’s all-new turbocharged 1.0-liter, three-cylinder EcoBoost engine that will make 118 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. Expect a diesel announcement in the future. Will it come to the United States? It currently seems unlikely, but perhaps the market will see to it otherwise. In other big news, look for the all-new Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ early next week at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, MI.
