Ford India Sells Just Shy Of 100,000 Cars In 2011

Ford sold 96,270 vehicles in India during 2011, representing a 15 percent increase versus 2010. The Blue Oval’s vehicles continue to attract new customers to the Ford brand in the face of difficult industry and economic conditions.

Additionally, India has exported 22,521 vehicles during 2011 — almost three times the amount exported in 2010. The Blue Oval hopes to continue both trends by building a second plant in Sanand — the Ahmedabad district of the Indian state Gujarat best known as the automobile hub of Gujarat; the company is also expanding its powertrain facility in Chennai. The increased capacity will allow Ford to meet demand that outpaces the single-digit industry forecasts.
