Community Question: Will Chevy’s All-New Colorado Push Ford To Bring New Ranger To North America?

While Ford was busy previewing the next-generation 2015 Edge and Lincoln was showing off the great-looking 2015 MKC at the Los Angeles Auto Show, cross-town rival General Motors pulled the wraps off its all-new 2015 Colorado midsize pickup truck. To note, the Bow Tie’s re-entry into the segment will pull (an estimated) 6,700 pounds and offer three engine choices — two naturally-aspirated gasoline engine — a four- and a six-banger, along with the 2.8 liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel. Pricing is yet to be announced, but is expected to start in the low $17,000s. All that is to ask: should Ford join in on the renewed midsize pickup truck rush with its new T6-generation Ranger by making it available in North America?
After all, the new “global” (except for North America) Ranger is sold on nearly every content except for The New World, and the sales success of the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier seems to only be gaining steam.

I sure hope so. The Ranger was a great truck that wasn’t given much if a chance. What was it? 20 years without an update? As long as the truck is differentiated in price, efficiency, and size compared to the F150, there should be a sizeable market for it.
I hope so as well. The Ranger was, indeed, a great truck and sold very well for Ford. But as you said, nearly two decades without many updates isn’t the best way to make a product successful. The new ‘global’ T6 Ranger is definitely differentiated in size and capability compared to the F-150. That leaves the pricing.
Given that the Thai-built T6 Ranger starts at 559,000 Baht, or $17,446 USD by today’s conversion, there should be enough room to differentiate it in figures as well. The Thai pricing conversion is appropriate given that the truck is built in the country and isn’t subject to any import/export tariffs.
Ford better get the Ranger back into production in the USA or they will loose me to GM!
I have been planning on a new truck next year and have been holding out for a USA made one.
Almost went with a Toyota but just could not bring myself to turn my back on the USA.
Please Ford “wake up”!!!
Wow… Just 3 responses… No wonder the Ranger is Not coming back to US…!
That’s probably because the article in question didn’t enjoy as much popularity as we would have liked… but make no mistake — there is a considerable amount of interest in the Ranger in the U.S.
And there is an even better reason to bring the Ranger here seeing that the 2015 F-150 will probably cost more than the outgoing model, making a smaller truck that’s less expensive an even great necessity.
If I could still buy a Sport Trac I would have replaced my 2007 ST by now. But no, Ford cancelled that truck as well as the old, out-dated Ranger leaving customers like me out in the dark. I have no need for an F-150. It is just too big. I wouldn’t care if the body was made from titanium and it got 40 mpg. It’s too damn big. And a Transit Disconnect is not a truck, thank you very much Ford. I had been a loyal Ford truck buyer since my first new vehicle which was a more reasonably sized 1977 F-150. But no more because Ford has decided that I am not allowed to buy the truck that fits my needs.
