The synopsis of the upcoming Need For Speed movie is as follows:
Framed for a crime he didn’t commit, muscle car mechanic and street racer Tobey (Aaron Paul) gets out of prison determined to settle the score with the man responsible for his false conviction.
Given that the trailer features cars (the ‘Need For Speed’ Mustang), more cars (Bugattis), pickup trucks (a Ford Super Duty), fights, girls, and — from the looks of it — some pretty exhilarating races and chases, we imagine that the actual full-length movie will have a lot more of each. But the real kicker, to us, came at the end of the trailer, when the NFS Stang got “clawed” by a helicopter right before flying off a cliff. Watch for yourself:
The Motrolix Take
Once we get past the cool cars and chases, Need For Speed seems to follow along in the path of other “car” movies that rely on special effects and the “cool factor” to tell the story in being as deep as a fresh puddle following a mid-morning shower. But that’s the whole point, isn’t it? The public wants stunts, camera action, and CGI… and in that regard, it seems that NFS will not disappoint. We’re curious to find compare NFS to The Fast & The Furious franchise to find out which is better. To do that, we’ll have to wait until March.
