Detroit Auto Show Attendance Numbers Best Since 2003

The North American Auto Show in Detroit came to a close after two weeks filled with new vehicle unveilings, revolutionary technology and a week’s worth of public

The gate numbers for the 2014 show came in at 803,451. The last time this happened was in 2003 at 838,066. And there were some astounding numbers not just for regular attendees. Multiple automakers had major debuts, including Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ford Motor Company, Hyundai, Kia, and more.

The Press Preview brought in a bustling 5,169 journalists from 60 countries and 38 states in the USA. The industry preview was also pretty spectacular with 30,040 suppliers, designers and engineers making Cobo Hall their home temporarily. Though, the biggest of the three previews was the Charity Preview.

A shocking 13,826 people helped to raise $4.8 million for children’s charities. Singer Cheryl Crowe performed in the newly renovated Cobo Atrium, and “Studio 25” took place as the first ever Charity Preview afterglow, held in the new grand ballroom. The latter required a special ticket but was a sellout nonetheless at 2,250 tickets. The event left a pretty large economic impact on southeastern Michigan.

Dollar figures came in at $365 million spent in the city of Detroit. That shows that the Detroit Three are by no means finished, and neither is Detroit.
