Ford Motor Company and its Tier 1 suppliers dished out a combined $10.4 million in work contracts to Michigan companies resulting from the 2013 Pure Michigan Business Connect Ford Matchmaking Summit, helping fuel the industrial fire that’s coming to life in the region once again.
The summit was hosted by the automaker in March 2013 in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Detroit Regional Chamber. Michigan Governor Rick Snyder said Ford and other companies like them are examples of the devotion to expanding the state’s economy from within.
“Their commitment along with those of other PMBC members, means significant growth opportunities for Michigan companies,” Snyder said.
Indeed, he is right because supply contracts for more than $11 million were because of the summit, with the $10.4 million originating from Ford and its suppliers. Richard Hopkins, vice president of global purchasing for Ford supplier Dura Automotive Systems, said the matchmaking summit allowed his company to be exposed to Michigan small businesses that otherwise they were not aware of.
“We sourced more than $45 million with 200 local suppliers in 2013, including $9.2 million with diverse suppliers,” Hopkins said.
In 2012, the company purchased $15 billion in goods and services from Michigan-based companies.
