Subaru Racing Reloads For 2014 With Travis Pastrana Signing

Defending five-time Rally America Champion David Higgins will have a new (old?) teammate joining (rejoining?) him with Subaru Rally Team USA. Four-time Champion Travis Pastrana — who set a world record for longest jump in a rally car — has re-signed with Subaru Rally Team USA after a three year hiatus to compete in this years Rally America Championship. The teams excitement level could not be higher as even after the few years Pastrana has taken off from rally car racing, he had won four consecutive Rally America Championships prior to his departure (the most in the history of the sport).

“Subaru is very excited to bring back both of our former rally champions. Between David and Travis, Subaru Rally Team USA has won the Rally America Championship seven times in the last eight years. Having them together this season will give us our best chance at defending our title” said Rob Weir Motorsports Marketing Manager. With such a successful pedigree coming into the season it’s hard to not look at Subaru and assume that they will again this year emerge victorious.

When asked about his thoughts on returning to the Subaru Rally Team USA Pastrana was quoted as saying, “I’m so happy to be back with the team I’ve been most successful with in the past. Rally racing is where my heart is and it’s a privilege to do it in a Subaru. The competition is stronger and our cars are faster than they have ever been here in the USA. It won’t be easy to get back to the top, but I’m looking forward to the challenge!”

The drivers will both use the 2014 Subaru WRX STI, with Subaru’s renowned symetrical all-wheel drive and will be tuned and managed by Vermont SportsCar, who also are in charge of Subaru America’s rallycross vehicles in the Global RallyCross Championship, but perhaps what is most exciting is that the drivers will both debut the 2015 Subaru WRX STI that was just premiered at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Can we skip to the future now?
