Tesla Sales Jump 20 Percent In Fourth Quarter Of 2013

In the four quarter of 2013, Tesla Motors set a company sales volume record by selling and delivering about 6,900 vehicles, exceeding prior guidance set by the automaker by roughly 20 percent.

Tesla stated that its two key drivers of demand have been its safety record with the Model S (despite fire controversies) as well as performance. Perhaps further related to the sales jump is Tesla’s award from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that gave the Tesla Model S a five star overall safety rating as well as in every subcategory without exception. Even so, the Model S continues to battle some negative perception stemming from reports of fires, which Tesla has taken measures to alleviate.
