Audi Entertains Thought Of Two New TT Family Members

Exciting news has escaped the Audi camp this week – a few weeks out from the expected debut of the third-gen Audi TT at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Chief Engineer Ulrich Hackenberg told the crew at Top Gear (The Top Gear) about the possibility of two additions to the TT family in the near future.

Firstly, Hackenberg spoke of an Allroad Shooting Brake concept – a crossover version of the TT – which he hopes to introduce to the production line soon. Having already displayed the concept at the Detriot Auto Show, the Allroad Shooting Brake was a popular attraction, looking to nestle in a growing market niche fit for smaller crossovers.

Secondly, talk of a lightweight TT was entertained – a vehicle which would hold the coveted RS badge. Although only tipped for a limited release, Audi’s new MQB architecture may allow for a racy, lightweight TT, weighing under 2,200 pounds. Such architecture allows Audi to use carbon fiber for certain body parts, such as the roof, in order to save weight. Not much more was said on the TT RS; however, the information was plenty enough to get enthusiasts salivating at the thought – maybe to even rival performance cars such as the lithe Porsche Cayman R.

The small-crossover market seems to be growing, with Audi looking to stamp its mark. Stay tuned for further news about the possible production of a Allroad Shooting Brake TT.
