Ford Motor Company sold 154,644 vehicles in the United States in January 2014, representing a 7 percent decline on an annual basis. Retail sales were down 5 percent to 113,721 units while fleet sales slid 14 percent “as winter weather hampered the ability to fill a portion of fleet orders”.
“Given the difficult weather in our largest sales regions, we are fortunate to have held in at retail as well as we did,” said John Felice, Ford vice president, U.S. marketing, sales and service. “In areas where the weather was good, such as in the West, sales were up. The poor weather also had an impact on the timing of some of our fleet deliveries. A bright spot is Lincoln, which had its strongest sales in four years.”
January sales highlights (vs. January 2013):
- Ford sales down 8 percent
- Lincoln sales up 42 percent
- Mustang sales were up 8 percent to 3,881 units, an impressive feat given that January 2013 marked the best January sales of the model since 2010
- Lincoln sales were up 43 percent to 5,973 units — Lincoln’s best performance for the month in four years
- Lincoln MKZ sales were up 368 percent to 2,122 units
- Lincoln MKX sales were up 36 percent to 2,479 units
