Tesla Awaits Guinness World Record Certification After LA To NYC Drive

Upon the completion of a three-day trip from LA to NYC, the Tesla Model S recorded the “lowest charge time for an electric vehicle traveling across the country” which is in the process of assessment to be a Guinness World Record.

The Model S tandem making the cross-country trip had to brave icy weather, a harsh sandstorm, and bouts of precipitation in the pursuit of the record books. As impressive as the electrically-charged drive through the elements was, even more impressive was the miniscule 76.5 hours it took to complete the drive.  Remember, the totality of gasoline was zero dollars – the entire trip made possible by Tesla’s Supercharger technology.

When the team of 15 drivers made their way towards the Manhattan skyline, they were greeted by a comparatively mild New York morning. As the drivers crossed the finish line, company CEO Elon Musk was on-site to welcome the crew, likely lacking in sleep after the grueling three-day trek. Sara Eslinger and Jalpa Patel were the two staff members who drove the Model S vehicles through the final leg, accompanies by CTO JB Straubel, who joined the record-breaking drive from the Newark leg onward.

Previous entries on Motrolix have shone light on the strong following Tesla is receiving both in the United States and around the world. With 85 Supercharger locations already up and running, Tesla have their eyes set on triple-figures within the years end. As the crew used Supercharger locations across the US, fans flocked to the respective sites providing a range of support – from a firm handshake to warm beverages. Keep in mind Tesla’s exploits were no gimmick or one-off. Tesla, along with their exponentially growing fan base, have shifted the thought of electric-car technology from a distant dream to a reality.

As Tesla awaits the results from their record-breaking attempt, the buzz around the Supercharger technology continues to grow. Stay tuned to keep up with Tesla’s mission to provide the world with regular and sustainable electric transportation.
