Volkswagen Announces GRC Beetle At Chicago Auto Show

Volkswagen will enter the Red Bull Global Rally Cross Championship this year with a pair of manic Volkswagen Beetles campaigned by Andretti Autosport. The two cars will be piloted by 2011 and 2012 GRC champion Tanner Foust and former Formula One driver Scott Speed.

The team will start the 2014 GRC season with a pair of modified Volkswagen Polo R rally cars and then switch to the Bugs later on in the season. The GRC Beetles, which VW will show at the Summer X-Games in June, will use a 560 horsepower TSI engine to send power to all four wheels.

“I’m thrilled to be entering the series, and especially happy about teaming with Volkswagen,” said Michael Andretti, CEO of Andretti Autosport. “We are excited about our driver lineup of Tanner (Foust) and Scott (Speed). I believe we have the best drivers in the series and will be a top contender.”

The 2014 Red Bull GRC season will kick off on May 18 with the Top Gear Festival held at the Bushy Park Race Circuit in Barbados.
