Ford Gives First Glance Of Transit Skyliner Concept

In an attempt to publicize the impressive versatility of the full-size Transit van, Ford has revealed the multi-purpose luxury-liner Transit Skyliner Concept. This van is a quadruple-faceted executive machine featuring an impressive variety of amenities and conveniences never before seen on a modern vehicle.

From the words of Ford, the Skyliner is a “… custom luxury motor coach designed with Ford Motor Company and built by Galpin Auto Sports [that] provides immersive comfort and luxury.”

Headlining the features of the Skyliner Concept is a fully rearrangeable rear cabin capable of morphing into four distinct interior layouts, all with a simple swipe of your smartphone or tablet:

  • Theater: Seats face the 52-inch retractable Stewart movie screen and recline for optimal cinematic viewing
  • Business: Motorized table unfolds and leather-trimmed seats are gathered around it for face-to-face conversation
  • Reception: Sliding door opens four feet wide and seats are arranged for easy entertaining while parked at an event
  • Travel: Passengers can adjust their reclining seats and retractable footrests for ultimate comfort and solitude

Each configuration utilizes to the fullest extent the gargantuan 487 cubic feet afforded by the lofty rear roof and spacious floor layout.

The interior is adorned with multiple leather thrones, rich interior accents with premium materials throughout, and a supple ride quality of a degree worthy of the Queen of England. Completing the package is Ford’s powerful and efficient 3.5L EcoBoost engine, driving the imposing Transit wherever your heart desires—chauffeur optional, considering autonomous cruising is a half a decade or so out.

LED mood lighting, surround-sound audio system, direct-satellite HDTV, and a built-in bar are among the featured luxuries. (Unfortunately, this does not include a dancing robot which prepares your margarita while searching for your favorite television show. A real shame, that.) The Skyliner does have is an intuitive central processor to manage all of these actions, all with a simple downloadable app for your iPhone.

“Traveling in Transit Skyliner is an experience unlike any other” says Tim Stoehr, Ford manager for commercial truck marketing. “You step into the vehicle and are immediately immersed in the custom interior and high-tech audiovisual environment. The next thing you know, you are arriving at your destination.”

To get a hands-on experience of Ford’s latest luxury barge, head down to the 2014 New York International Auto Show starting later this week.

Car-enthusiast since birth. British at Heart. Just enjoying the ride!
