Millions around the world gathered this past weekend for the beginning of the Champions League Final, and the Battle of Madrid had everyone on the edge of their seats, running into 120 minutes of extra time before Real Madrid outlasted Atletico Madrid to the tune of 4-1. Some weren’t anxious about the game itself, though. Because as the ball was touched to start the game, reservations in Europe for the new and first 2015 Ford Mustang to be sold by Ford opened up.
According to Ford, the 500 Mustangs available were taken in the first 30 seconds. And over 9,000 people tried to reserve one during the two-hour game. The cars were sold across 20 countries, and over 25 percent of the 500 cars available were sold to buyers in the UK with right-hand drive.
Ford is also the official vehicle supplier for the Champions League, and promoted its registration event with a series of videos, depicting the Mustang in front of major landmarks from London, Paris, Berlin and Rome, with a final video showing the Mustang inside Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, where the final match was played.
