How Ford Motor Company’s Support For Veterans Started Over 90 Years Ago

Memorial Day 2014 is here, and the Ford Motor Company Fund is sponsoring three Honor Flights for WWII veterans. That being the case, it’s worth mentioning how the automaker’s support of the vets came to be.

Notably, the tradition started over 90 years ago, when Henry Ford led a cross-country caravan of 50 Ford Model Ts to transport disabled veterans to their convention.

Ford Motor Company has also been an ardent veteran supporter, having providing more than $8 million to veteran organizations, including support for the National World War II Memorial, since 1974. And the automaker’s sponsorship of the three Honor Flights in 2014 brings the total Ford-sponsored Honor Flights since 2011 to nine.
