Joel Piaskowski Takes Over As Ford Europe Design Chief: Executive Shuffle

Ford announced today that current Head of Design in Europe, Martin Smith, will turn his position over to current Strategic Concepts Group leader Joel Piaskowski on July 1. Smith, 64, led Ford’s European design team for the past 10 years and oversaw the designs for the current Focus and Fiesta as well as the Evos concept, the inspiration behind the all-new 2015 Mustang.

Smith elected to leave his position in order to work on a global project alongside Moray Callum, vice president of Design at Ford, studying the future direction of Ford design. He will retire from the company completely at the end of the year.

Piaskowski, 45, joined Ford in 2010 as a director of exterior design and led the teams responsible for designing two of the Blue Oval’s most important nameplates, the 2015 Mustang and F-150 pickup. He also previously held the position of design director at Ford Asia Pacific and held positions at Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai and most recently, General Motors, before joining on with Ford.
