Ford To Host ‘Virtual Versus Real’ Race In New Focus ST With Ben ‘The Stig’ Collins At Goodwood

Ford will unveil the refreshed 2015 Focus ST at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend. In doing so, it will also host a “virtual versus real” race at the festival in which gamers virtually compete against the Focus ST running the circuit in “real life”.

Here’s how it will all work: a designated gamer at the Ford stand will race the Focus ST in Gran Tusismo 6 on a PlayStation 3, while Ben Collins (formerly The Stig of Top Gear) drives the ST in real life on the car’s first run of each day. The action will be displayed on big screens throughout the festival in real time. Visitors to the Ford stand will also have the chance to record their own times on the Gran Turismo 6 simulators.

The contest is the first “virtual versus real” event to take place at Goodwood, and is made possible by a collaboration between Ford and Sony Computer Entertainment.

The Motrolix Take

Talk about (bloody) brilliant product-based marketing. Now, will someone beat that smug Stig?!
