Volkswagen Giving Away GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition Camera As part Of 2015 GTI Launch

GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition

GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition

Volkswagen is currently celebrating the U.S. launch of its all-new 2015 Golf GTI. And besides the vast amount of new sales it’s likely to earn by launching the vehicle, the brand is also giving shoppers another reason to buy its new hot hatch: a free GoPro camera. That’s right, buyers of the 2015 Golf GTI in the United States get the GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition camera and mount with their purchase (finance or lease).

The equipment will allow the drivers to capture those uniquely-awesome moments on a “closed course” (aka the track), as Tanner Foust does here:

VW’s only stipulation for the promo is that customers must make the purchase by June 30, 2014.

The Motrolix Take

It’s highly likely that VW’s GoPro promotion will entice customers to purchase more GTIs in June — giving the brand a chance to turn around its chronically-slumping sales. But the promotion also doubles as a clever marketing ploy, since owners will likely use the GoPro cameras to record their driving (whether on or off the track), and then upload the recorded videos to video sharing sites like YouTube, Facebook, Vine, and Vimeo, which equals free publicity for the VeeDub.

The Legalese

Those interested in VW’s legalese can read it in its entirely here:

Open only to legal residents of the 50 U.S. and D.C. who purchase or lease a new 2015 Golf GTI on or before June 30, 2014 from an authorized Volkswagen dealer and who electronically sign Liability Release. Max 1,750 gifts available. Must be 21 or older at time of purchase. Fleet and business customers are not eligible. ARV of gift: $450. Allow 8-10 weeks for delivery. Restrictions apply. If used while driving, for use on a closed course only, not on public roads. Always obey all speed and traffic laws, and do not drive while distracted. Always consult vehicle’s Owner’s Manual and camera’s User Manual and Mounting Instructions.
