NHTSA Opens Investigation on Faulty 2011-2013 Ford Fiesta Door Latches

The Ford Fiesta is the latest subject of an NHTSA investigation. The Feds opened the investigation particularly on the 2011-2013 Ford Fiesta models after 61 reports were filed on faulty door latches. The doors may fail to latch, or possibly open without warrant.

“Complainants alleged that the door(s) failed to latch, with several reports indicating that the ‘door ajar’ warning light on the dash appeared,” said NHTSA in its summary of the Ford Fiesta probe. “Of the reports identified, 12 allege that the door(s) opened after it was shut and the driver started their route.” One driver reportedly was struck by the door after it “rebounded” back.

A preliminary evaluation on the Ford Fiesta has begun, which normally precedes a recall, but the Fiesta has not been recalled as of yet. “We are cooperating with NHTSA on this investigation as we always do,” wrote Kelli Felker, a Ford spokeswoman.
