2015 Ford Mustang Ecoboost Capable Of Hitting 12-Second Quarter Miles: Video

The 2.3L four-cylinder Ecoboost is the new kid on the block when it comes to FoMoCo powertrains, and debuts in the 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost. A four banger hasn’t been offered in the Mustang since the ’84-’86 model years as the SVO (coincidentally also a 2.3L turbocharged 4-cylinder). More macho purists may moan, but this is 2014, and forced induction doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. Wipe those tears, because Ford Racing has proven the 2015 Ford Mustang Ecoboost means business.

Dubbed the “.99 Challenge”, the goal was to be first to ten, eleven, and twelve seconds in three variants of the new fastback. The naturally aspirated GT’s five-oh does the displacement justice, clocking in at 11.77 in the quarter-mile. Another GT with a Ford Racing supercharger kit ran the quarter in 10.97 seconds.

The best of the video is the 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost checking in at a brisk 12.56 seconds, as it spools its way down the strip.  For a four-pot, that’s impressive, and modifications were limited to only  a new subframe, half-shaft, drive shaft loops, exhaust, engine calibration, slicks, roll cage and bucket seats.

Watch the runs in the video below.
