Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid World Premiere At Paris Motor Show

Porsche has just become the world’s first manufacturer to offer a plug-in hybrid luxury SUV, as well as the first to offer three plug-in hybrid production models, with the introduction of the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid.

The Cayenne S E-Hybrid stores its charge in a 10.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which powers a 70 kW (95 HP) electric motor. This electric powerplant is enough to get you going and keep driving through up to 22 miles purely on electricity, or when run alongside the supercharged 3.0 liter V6, can deliver a combined 416 horsepower, allowing the Cayenne S E-Hybrid to jot to 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in 5.9 seconds. Top speed utilizing both powerplants is 151 mph.

The luxury SUV shows the Porsche firm’s engineering prowess even more impressively with an exclusive pressurized fuel-tank. The tank on the Cayenne S E-Hybrid is actually kept at a constant pressure of around 0.3 bar (just over 4 psi) to prevent evaporating fuel to escape to the atmosphere, and to help further the goal of maintaining low emissions.

The Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid joins the Panamera S E-Hybrid and the 918 Spyder in Porsche’s lineup of plug-in hybrid cars. Best of all, beside being even more lean and green than those machines, it still comes loaded with quintessentially Porsche performance.
