The Ford Fiesta-based EcoSport Storm Concept was a hit at the São Paulo Auto Show in Brazil last month, but we think it could be a hit here in the States as well. We already have the Fiesta on our shores, and the current EcoSport has been in production in Brazil since 2012, so why not create this greatest of all CUVs to add to our landscape?
That’s an opinion shared by Road & Track, but they are afraid that the EcoSport Storm will be nothing more than a “pipe dream.” The concept is not much more than a production Fiesta with “aggressive tires, paint, graphics, fender flares, and a meaner front fascia” with powertrain that likely is stocker than stock. Considering the EcoSport is already sold in South America, Southeast Asia, and Europe, it would not take much to make the Storm ready for global markets.
Alas that may not include the U.S., as the EcoSport wasn’t engineered to meet our government’s requirements. Road & Track seems to think that a “rally-inspired baby Raptor is exactly the right play to make,” and we can’t argue with that.
