Ford Motor Company Recalls 202,238 Vehicles Over Five Recalls

Ford Motor Company is issuing five safety recalls affecting a cumulative 202,238 vehicles sold in North America. Of the five, there is only one instance of an accident being linked to a defect, although there were no injuries. Details are as follows.

Recall #1

The problem: incorrect fuel and vapor line routing may rub together in the 2014 Ford Transit Connect, possibly causing a leak in the fuel line over time and resulting in a fire.

Affected vehicles: 2014 Ford Transit Connect vehicles with the 2.5L engine built at Valencia Assembly from August. 1, 2013 to July 10, 2014.

Number of affected vehicles: 27,597 units in North America, of which 25,238 units were sold in the United States and federalized territories, and approximately 2,359 in Canada.

The fix: dealers will inspect the lines, and reroute and replace the fuel line if necessary. This will be done at no cost to the customer.

Recall #2

The problem: the 2015 Ford Transit has a bracket that holds the fuel filter to the frame. Apparently it may become detached over time, resulting in a knocking sound or an engine stall due to fuel starvation. If the latter occurs, it could lead to a crash.

Affected vehicles: 2015 Transit vehicles with a 3.2L diesel engine built at Ford’s Kansas City Assembly from July 28, 2014 to August 7, 2014.

Number of affected vehicles: Ford is aware of 92 units total, of which 89 units sold in the United States and three in Canada.

The fix: dealers will inspect the vehicles and reinforce the underbody structure if necessary. This will be done at no cost to the customer.

Recall #3

The problem: the 2005-2011 Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car may have been improperly repaired during a previous safety recall for an issue with the lower intermediate steering shaft. This could result in a loss of steering. One accident with no injuries has been reported.

Affected vehicles:

  • 2005-2011 Ford Crown Victoria vehicles built at St. Thomas Assembly from March 23, 2004 to August 30, 2011
  • 2005-2011 Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles built at St. Thomas Assembly from March 23, 2004 to August 30, 2011
  • 2005-2007 Lincoln Town Car vehicles built at Wixom Assembly from March 8, 2004 to June 5, 2007
  • 2008-2011 Lincoln Town Car vehicles built at St. Thomas Assembly from August 28, 2007 to August 30, 2011

Number of affected vehicles: Ford is aware of 38,645 units total, of which 36,888 sold in the United States and federalized territories, and 1,757 in Canada.

The fix: dealers will inspect and replace the upper intermediate steering shaft if necessary. They will also inspect the steering column lower bearing and install a bearing retainer kit if necessary.

Recall #4

The problem: the 2014 Ford F-150 may have a brake pedal position switch could may be incorrectly adjusted, possibly resulting in a delay or a non-illumination of the brake lights when the brake pedal is depressed. In addition, drivers may need to use additional brake pressure to disengage the cruise control system, so Ford is advising customers not to use cruise control until the vehicle has been repaired.

Affected vehicles:

  • 2014 F-150 vehicles built at Dearborn Truck from March 1, 2014 to March 13, 2014
  • 2014 F-150 vehicles built at Kansas City Assembly from March 3, 2014 to March 13, 2014

Number of affected vehicles: Ford is aware of 960 units total, of which 618 sold in the United States and federalized territories, 338 in Canada, and four in Mexico.

The fix: dealers will remove and reinstall the brake pedal position switch at no cost to the customer.

The problem: the 2014 Ford Flex and F-150 pickup have a passenger seat sensing issue that could result in non-deployment of the passenger airbag in certain frontal crashes, especially if an adult is in the passenger seat.

Affected vehicles:

  • Certain 2014 Flex vehicles built at Oakville Assembly from March 1, 2014 to May 31, 2014
  • 2014 F-150 vehicles built at Dearborn Truck from March 1, 2014 to May 31, 2014
  • 2014 F-150 vehicles built at Kansas City Assembly from March 1, 2014 to May 31, 2014
  • 2009-2014 F-150 vehicles serviced with a suspect seat track assembly repaired February 17, 2014 through October 31, 2014

Number of affected vehicles: Ford is aware of 134,947 units total, of which 113,418 were sold in the United States and federalized territories, 19,975 in Canada, and 1,554 in Mexico.

The fix: dealers will widen the gap between the manual seat frame and seat track assembly, then calibrate the seat occupant classification system at no cost to the customer.
