The Audi R8 V8 has slowly started to come down in price over the years and is now at a point where it is actually affordable for people who don’t belong to the 1 percent. Despite this, some of us will still never be able to afford such a luxury, but one MK1 Toyota MR2 owner decided he needed to have a mid-engined Audi-powered sports car no matter what, so he improvised.
The builder of the car, Paul Wood, showhorned a 4.2-liter Audi V8 into the MR2 right where the 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine used to sit. The engine is also hooked up to a six-speed manual gearbox, giving you a powertrain which is almost the exact same on paper as an R8 V8’s.
There’s a few other small mods to help the little MR2 deal with the large V8 engine’s power, such as new coilovers, Porsche 996 911 brakes, a half roll cage and more. The seller says the car would make an awesome race or track day car, or “an insane road car,” which sounds mighty appealing to us.
