Besides confirming plans to bring the Focus RS to major global markets such as the U.S., the other big Ford news was about the new Ford Performance team. The new devision will be made up of the Ford SVT team from America, Team RS from Europe, and the Ford Racing team responsible for The Blue Oval’s motorsports efforts.
Tapped to head the new global team as director, Global Ford Performance, is none other than Mustang Chief Engineer Dave Pericak.
According to Ford, the restructuring is part of the automaker’s One Ford plan that aims to leverage Ford’s global corporate resources. The newfound division’s purpose is to become an innovation laboratory and test-bed to create unique performance vehicles, parts, accessories, and experiences for customers, including developing innovations and technologies in:
- Aerodynamics
- Light-weighting
- Electronics
- Powertrain performance
- Fuel efficiency
Developments in all of these areas can be applied more broadly to Ford’s product portfolio.
