Ford Recalls 2014 Transit Connect Vans Over Plastic Panel Adhesion Issues

Earlier this month, Ford announced a recall of nearly 20,000 2015 Transit Connect cargo vans for an issue related to the adhesion of an exterior plastic panel to the sliding doors that could potentially increase the risk of an accident or injury. Ford is currently not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition.

The problem: the plastic panel in question may result in noise, a water leak, a loose panel, or separation of the plastic panel from the vehicle while driving.

Affected models: 2014 Transit Connect cargo van two-panel vehicles built at Ford’s Valencia Assembly Plant in Spain between August 9, 2013 and September 20, 2014, as well as certain units of the 2014 Transit Connect cargo van one-panel vehicles built at the same plant during the same time period.

Number of affected models: Ford says that the recall affects 19,825 vehicles located in the United States and federalized territories, as of December 3, 2014.

The fix: dealers will remove and reinstall the sliding door plastic panels using proper materials and procedures at no cost to the customer.

Contact: owners of affected vehicles should contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673 or their local Ford dealers.
