Ford And Thor Livin Lite Join Forces To Offer Ford-Branded RV Products

Joining a light-weight aluminum pickup truck with a light-weight aluminum recreational vehicle builder seems like a surefire win. That’s because it is, as Ford has teamed up with Thor Livin Lite, with the RV builder planning to create Ford-branded lifestyle products like tent campers, travel trailers, truck campers, toy haulers and fifth wheels. The products will mirror the styling cues of new products like the 2015 Ford F-150 and next-generation Super Duty trucks and be sold via Thor Livin Lite dealers.

“I can’t tell you how excited we are to work with a company as prestigious as Ford and bring their iconic brand name back into the RV industry,” said Scott Tuttle, president of Thor Livin Lite. “Ford believes enough in our unique aluminum construction to allow us to carry the ‘Built Ford Tough’ label, which says a lot.”

Thor Living Lite is a natural fit for Ford since it bills its products as being 30 percent lighter than the competition. That’s similar to the approach Ford has taken with its new F-150, which is up to 700 pounds lighter than the last-generation F-150 as well as roughly 30 percent lighter than the trucks offered by competitors from GM, Dodge/Ram, and Toyota. And when it comes to trucks (and pretty much all vehicles), lighter is indeed better.

Thor Livin Lite will launch its new Ford-branded products in early 2015; teams from the two firms started working together in 2013 to bring the RV products to market.
