Volkswagen has confirmed that it has hired celebrity singer and performer Robbie Williams as its marketing manager.
The move comes as VW rolls out an all-new marketing campaign with the introduction of its new “Club and Lounge” special editions Volkswagens. Ranging from the Up! to the Golf family and from to the Beetle to the Tiguan, Volkswagen will offer nine different special editions of its vehicles starting in January 2015.
Europe’s largest automaker televised the news with a press conference claiming Williams as a key protagonist in the new marketing campaign, which will use the “how good does that sound?” slogan. The campaign will carried across all forms of the media, and will be the first time Volkswagen teams up with music streaming service Spotify to reach customers in new market niches.
Williams seems to be enjoying his white-collar job saying, “Marketing manager at Volkswagen – how good does that sound? For me, it’s a big change. It’s stepping out of the world of pop into a proper job.” For a guy who holds Volkswagen’s image in his hands, he sounds very optimistic.
With the roll out of Volkswagen’s newest marketing campaign, expect to hear more from the German automaker across a wide variety of media sources. So now we have to ask: how good does that sound?
