The Smoking Tire Drives A Modded VW Golf GTI Mk6: Video

Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire has started a pretty nifty segment where local owners of modified cars meet up with the host and allow him to get some seat time in their labors of love. The most recent episode features a lightly modified and tuned example of a Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk6 with Volkswagen’s DSG automatic.

Farah admits to not being all too fond of the engine in the VW Golf GTI in factory form, but the owner’s version employs an APR tune to really wake up the compact hatch. Farah and the owner take the compact VeeDub for a joyride to carve up some LA-area roads.

In the end, Farah walks away impressed with the way the tune gives the Golf GTI a much more usable power band between 5,000 and 7,000 RPM, contrasting the lack of grunt found in a similarly-equipped Ford Fiesta ST, in which power begins to fall off after 5,000 RPM.

Watch the video of the GTI’s excursion for yourself.
