Volkswagen Golf R Pre-Orders Fill Up In Less Than 11 Hours

Well, that was quick. Previously, we notified you of the pre-order process for the very first 500 units of the upcoming Volkswagen Golf R, the super hot variant of the new compact hatchback from the German automaker. And for who didn’t get their order in, time is up, as the 500 units of the Golf R — priced at $39,090 plus the $820 destination and delivery fee — sold out in less than eleven hours.

Pre-orders for the car opened up at 12:01 AM on January 8th, 2015. By 10:30 AM EST, all 500 initial units were spoken for. The pre-order page now shows the car as no longer available, with VW confirming the news on its official Twitter page. Those interested in getting their hands on the hot hatch are advised to join the waiting list, with the individuals on the list being next in line if an existing pre-order is canceled.

The Volkswagen Golf R is outfitted with VW’s active damper system, navigation and a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, not to mention the more-than-potent 2.0L turbocharged engine making 292 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch DSG sending power to all four wheels using VW’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive system . Volkswagen will also include a few goodies for those devoted enough to pre-order the car, including a watch, key chain and certificate with the vehicle’s VIN.
