2016 Ford Focus RS Breaks Cover Ahead Of Official Debut

Update: Ford has officially released details on the 2016 Focus RS.

In a rather unsurprising turn of events, photos of the 2016 Ford Focus RS have leaked on the internet ahead of the car’s official debut, allowing us to see the Blue Oval’s latest super-hatch in all of its glory one day early.

Though details surrounding the Focus RS’ powertrain have remained under wraps, we expect that it will be powered by a version of Ford’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine making in the vicinity of 300 horsepower. That seems realistic, given that the 2.3-liter EcoBoost I4 is the same engine that powers the 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost, in which it makes 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque.

Rumored to be sending the power to the ground is a torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system that’s capable of sending up to 70 percent of its power to the stout five door’s rear wheels, enabling the car to hit 60 mph from a halt in under five seconds. This puts the Focus RS within striking distance of its key rivals, including the MK7 Volkswagen Golf R and Audi S3.

Stay tuned, as more details on Ford’s latest edition to its rapidly expanding performance portfolio should surface shortly.
