Volkswagen To Introduce New Trim Level For U.S.-Market Passat

Just last month, Volkswagen told its dealers to expect a slight uptick in sales this year, and even greater growth in 2017 as the automaker introduces two new (much-needed) crossovers in the U.S. In addition, VW said that it’s placing greater emphasis on the profitability of its dealers, 30-40 percent of which struggle to stay in the black on a monthly basis. But that’s not the end of good news for the brand, as executives told dealers to expect a new trim level for the Passat.

Scheduled to arrive in the first quarter of 2015, the new tim level is designed to increase lackluster sales of the Passat in the U.S. The trim level is said to feature more content than the Passat SE but to cost around $2,000 less.

As of February 2015, the Passat SE starts at $26,280 and occupies the middle of five Passat trim levels; the Passat Wolfsburg Edition slots below it, and the Passat S serves as the base model.

Current 2015 Volkswagen Passat 1.8T consists of the following five trim levels:

  • Power-operated side mirrors with integrated turn signals
  • Automatic headlights with Coming/Leaving Home feature
  • Daytime Running Lights (DRL)
  • 16″ steel wheels with wheel covers
  • AUX-in for portable audio players
  • Bluetooth with audio streaming with compatible devices
  • Sound system with MP3- and WMA-compatible CD player, AM/FM radio
  • Multi-function steering wheel
  • Cloth seating surfaces
  • Front seats, 6-way manually adjustable
  • Driver’s seat adjustable lumbar support
  • 60/40-split folding rear seat
  • Automatic headlights with Coming/Leaving Home feature
