A New Porsche Rear Seat Entertainment Option Is Available

If you were one of the 100 very important persons fortunate enough to secure a Porsche Panamera Exclusive Series, you might have taken note of a comprehensive new set of screens made available to rear seat passengers. Sad to say, it’s exclusive no more; an identical new Porsche rear seat entertainment option has become available for all Panamera, Macan, and Cayenne models.

The system consists of two 10.1-inch touchscreen displays with a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels each, integrated into the rears of the front headrests. Permanently connected to these are an integrated DVD player, USB ports, an SD card reader, and an HDMI input.

But perhaps the niftiest feature of this new Porsche rear seat entertainment system is that each of the touchscreens has an integrated camera, enabling for “video telephony,” according to the release. Two pairs of Bluetooth headphones come standard, allowing back seat occupants to each listen to their own respective audio sources without threatening the driver’s selection of tunes on the head unit. And, a “Plus” version adds 32 gb of internal storage for saving media files to the system.

It’s perhaps a bit perplexing that the German marque perhaps most synonymous with pure, distilled driving pleasure and performance is fussing about with screens and DVD players and the like. But, if options like this Porsche rear seat entertainment system are the brand’s bread and butter, we’ll hold our tongues so long as they keep bringing stunning new sportscars.
