Driversity is all about the world’s best rally drivers and their teams rising to the challenge despite the odds. And the very first episode features some blood-thirsty creatures, a chained beast, and the fearless Jari-Matti Latvala in the deep snows of Sweden.
Now, those creatures aren’t as fierce as the video initially lets on. In fact, they’re very cute and cuddly dogs who are part of a sled dog team. But the beast that they will race is a whole different animal: the Snowareg — a Volkswagen Touareg on snow tracks. Lucky for the rally drivers, it’s on their side.
The 4.2-liter TDI V8-powered beast was initially made by Volkswagen as an alternative to using helicopters for transportation between stages during the World Rally Championships. Incidentally, the powertrain is only able to get the Snowareg up to 40 MPH, so it’s not the world’s fastest snowmobile, though it still looks like a ton of fun to us.
