Volkswagen Unleashes GTI Supersport For Gran Turismo 6

The digital playground allows for near endless possibilities in any field imaginable. But, we’re concerned with automotive, of course. Gran Turismo has challenged automakers across all makes to bring forth their ultimate examples of what a grand touring machine embodies with the game’s Vision Gran Turismo  project.

For Volkswagen, the Golf GTI is the logical starting point for that particular formula, and Volkswagen has presented its end result. Enter the GTI Supersport. Previously, Volkswagen had already interpreted the grand touring concept with the cabriolet version of the GTI Supersport, but felt a hard-top supercar would make for good company.

The greatest part behind Vision Gran Turismo is the projects legitimacy, becausennot only are these near living-breathing entities, but the specifications are all drawn up to match the car. For the Volkswagen GTI Supersport, a 503 hp VR6 TSI engine scoots the concept around the digital landscape, with shifting duties handed off to seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. Power is transferred to Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive system, providing plenty of grab for the 503 ponies waiting to be laid down to asphalt.

The instantly recognizable design not only pays homage to the Golf its derived from, but features clever aerodynamic tricks to ensure only the best lap times. The air flow through the body is enhanced with massive intakes up front, where it’s nearly sucked out of the wheel arches to cool the brake discs.

Isn’t it incredible what a blank canvas and endless possibilities can bring? If only this were real life. Volkswagen hopes to make its digital contenders a tad shaken in their boots with the introduction of the GTI Supersport, and it seems drivers will have one more vehicle to keep tabs on in their digital rearview mirrors.
