SpongeBob Themed Fords To Hit Track At Kansas This Weekend

SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Plankton and others in the Bikini Bottom gang have found their way onto five different NASCAR Sprint Cup cars for this weekend’s SpongeBob SquarePants 400 at Kansas Speedway. Of the SpongeBob-themed cars on the grid, just two are Fords, but they may be the coolest paint schemes we’ve seen in NASCAR all year.

The hood on Greg Biffle’s Ford Fusion has been taken over by SpongeBob’s consistently muddled next-door neighbor Patrick Star, turning it into the No. 16 Cheez-It/ Patrick Star Fusion. Michael McDowell’s car sports the likeness of Larry Lobster, a buff red American lobster often found lifting weights on the beach in the SpongeBob realm, making his ride the No. 95 WRL/Larry the Lobster Fusion at Kansas.

“It’s really fun to be part of the Nickelodeon lineup for the Kansas race and get to feature Patrick Star and Cheez-It on our No. 16 Ford,” Biffle said in a statement. “Nickelodeon does a lot to bring sports to kids, which is something that is important and I’m glad to be a part of it. Kansas is a good track for us and Saturday night races are always exciting. Hopefully we can get another Kansas win.”

For families attending the Mother’s Day weekend race in Kansas, there’s the Nickelodeon Kids Zone. Located where the the Kansas Speedway Fan Zone normally is, the area will host appearances from the SpongeBob SquarePants costumed characters, a SpongeBob SquarePants photo station and more fun, family-oriented SpongeBob activities.

The green flag on the SpongeBob SquarePants 400 will wave at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 9.
