U.S. Toyota and Lexus dealers delivered 203,329 new vehicles in April 2015, a 1.84 percent increase compared to April 2014.
Toyota-Scion
The Toyota division posted April 2015 sales of 177,453 units, up 0.5 percent on a volume basis and 0.5 percent on a DSR basis.
Of these, 173,144 were Toyotas while 4,309 wore the Scion logo.
“Light truck sales have carried the auto industry to its best start in 15 years,” said Bill Fay, Toyota division group vice president and general manager. “The demand for crossover SUVs is off the charts and both the RAV4 and Highlander set April records.”
Lexus
Lexus posted sales of 25,876 units, up 11.7 percent from April 2014.
“Lexus is off to its best start ever,” said Jeff Bracken, Lexus group vice president and general manager. “We’re bullish on the industry as we head into the summer selling season and that goes double for the luxury segment.”
April highlights (vs. April 2014, except as noted):
- Toyota sales up 1.19 percent to 173,144 vehicles:
- Camry remains the volume leader with sales of 34,066 units, but sales are down 10 percent
- Corolla up 10 percent to 31,990 units
- Highlander up 10 percent to 13,763 units
- 4Runner up 17.9 percent to 7,432 units
- RAV4 up 21.6 percent to 22,914 units
- Sienna up 1.9 percent to 11,353 units
- Toyota Light trucks up 8 percent:
- Tacoma up 12.8 percent to 15,656 units
- Tundra up 4.5 percent to 10,681 units
- Sales of all other Toyota models were down on a year-over-year basis
- Scion sales down 20 percent to 4,309 units:
- TC up 5.6 percent increase to 1,693 units
- Sales of all other Scion models were down on a year-over-year basis
- Lexus sales up 11.7 percent to 25,876 units:
- CT was up 11 percent to 1,170 units
- IS was up 6 percent to 4,008 units
- RC posted 1,226 sales
- GS was up 14 percent to 1,711 units
- The new NX posted 3,421 sales
- GX was up 18.9 percent to 1,950 units
- RX remained the volume leader for the brand, but sales were down 16 percent to 6,810 units
- Sales of all other Lexus models were down on a year-over-year basis
