Volkswagen’s New Modular Infotainment System To Support Apple CarPlay, Android Auto

As part of its commitment to “driving the development of more connected and intelligent vehicles”, Volkswagen has announced that its next-generation infotainment system will feature advanced app and smartphone integration.

The new system in question is the second generation “modular infotainment platform” or MIB II. It will support MirrorLink, thereby being able to integrate the apps and operating layout of numerous smartphones — including those from Samsung, HTC, LG and Sony — into cars.

What’s perhaps even more important is that MirrorLink’s introduction will also herald the launch two other highly-expected integration interfaces — Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be launched under the App-Connect label, according to Volkswagen.

The automaker has yet to disclose details such as which vehicles will receive the MIB II system, as well as when and which markets it plans on launching it. Stay tuned to Motrolix as we learn that information.
