Sales of the Ford Mustang increased an impressive 39 percent on a year-over-year basis in May 2015, with Ford selling 13,616 units of the pony car during the month. What’s more, Mustang sales have grown 55 percent to 56,571 vehicles sold during the first five months of 2015. But that’s not all.
Today, as The Blue Oval released its May 2015 Ford-Lincoln sales results, The Blue Oval revealed the following two statistics about Mustang sales in Southern California, which is America’s largest sports car market:
- On a year-over-year basis, Mustang sales have grown 116 percent for the first five months of 2015
- The 2.3-liter EcoBoost I4 motor is now the best-selling Mustang engine
Again, both stats are for the So. Cal market for the first five months of 2015.
The Motrolix Take
The second statistic is rather impressive given the fact that the EcoBoost motor is an extra-cost option for the all-new sixth-generation pony, and also considering the fact that the turbo-charged motor is a new option that hasn’t been available for 50 years. All in all, both stats show that consumers are responding positively to the new boosted four-banger in the iconic pony car despite its relatively new nature.
