U.S. Volkswagen dealers delivered 34,758 new vehicles in May 2015, an increase of 8 percent compared to May 2014.
“We are encouraged by the performance of the Golf family, delivering the best May in 15 years. We are happy to see the full-lineup delivering success, whether it’s the all-electric e-Golf, the TDI Clean Diesel models, the new SportWagen and the performance driven Golf R,” said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America.
May 2015 notes (vs. May 2014, except as noted):
- Cumulative Golf family sales totaled 6,308 sales up 252 percent for the best May for the Golf family since 2000
- Golf was up 188 percent to 1,972 units
- Golf GTI was up 65 percent to 1,826 units
- Golf R delivered 312 units
- Golf SportWagen delivered 1,788 units
- e-Golf delivered 410 units — the best month ever for the vehicle
- Beetle Convertible was up 6.8 percent to 1,355 units
- Jetta Sedan was up 4.9 percent to 12,650 units
- Tiguan was up 16.2 percent to 3,079 units
- Touareg was up 26.8 percent to 700 units
- High-mileage, TDI Clean Diesel models accounted for 22.7 percent of sales in May – the highest TDI Mix since August 2014
Volkswagen is also expanding its Chattanooga plant to build its upcoming crossover. A recent study estimated that the expansion and addition of the vehicle to the plant’s manufacturing operations could result in an impact of 9,800 jobs and $370 million to the Tennessee economy.
