What Happens Inside The Porsche Nardò Technical Center: Video

If you’re ever lucky enough to make a trek into outer space, you might look down and happen to catch a glimpse of the Nardò Technical Center in Italy. Sprawling across an area greater than 700 hectares, the Tech Center – property of one Porsche Engineering – is so massive that it can reportedly be seen from space.

Porsche Engineering only acquired the Nardò Technical Center back in 2012, but the advantages of owning such a facility can’t be overstated. Within the center, there is a 3.9-mile long handling circuit, a gargantuan 7.8-mile long high-speed oval, offroad sections, and engineered driving surfaces designed to mimic various real-world conditions.

And, since the Nardò Technical Center dwells far to the south east in Italy, a mere stone’s throw from the Mediterranean Sea, the mild year-round climate allows the facility to operate 365 days out of the year.

The video below, uploaded to Porsche’s official YouTube channel, manages to convey just some of what we’ve been talking about. It views an awful lot like a sales pitch, which is a bit strange; we’d imagine that the vast majority of us aren’t manufacturers interested in engaging Porsche Engineering to do any testing for us.

Now if only Porsche would open up the Nardò Technical Center to aspiring 24 Hours of Lemons teams…
