2017 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Is Two-Door V8 Motoring Fun For Four

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe has officially arrived, giving customers a sportier alternative to the sedan version of the high-performance four-door. Set for a Frankfurt Motor Show debut next month, the all-new two-door is the latest addition to the growing C-Class portfolio, which now also includes the C300, C400 and C450 AMG.

As expected, the 2017 C63 Coupe is powered by the same 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 as the sedan. In standard trim it produces 469 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, and in C63 S trim, it makes 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. The sprint from 0-60 mph takes 3.9 seconds and the top speed is 150 mph, unless you opt for the ‘S’ trim, in which case the sprint to 60 takes 3.8 seconds and the top speed is 180 mph. All model variations of the C63 AMG use Mercedes’ seven-speed automatic transmission.

Mercedes widened the C-Class Coupe significantly in moving to the C63 AMG model. The flared wheel arches alone make the car 2.51-inches wider at the front and 2.59- inches wider in the rear, allowing for the use of wide 255mm tires out front and 285mm tires in the rear. These changes all contribute to improved lateral acceleration, traction and agility, Mercedes says.

Also contributing to improved handling performance is Mercedes’ ‘AMG Ride Control’ suspension system. The system allows the customer to choose between three ride modes for maximum comfort or maximum sportiness, and is joined by other customizable systems like 3-stage ESP, and Dynamic Select transmission modes.

Inside, the C63 Coupe is all familiar C-Class fare, with enough premium materials to satisfy even the pickiest of luxury car buyers. Setting it apart from the standard C-Class coupe are optional performance seats, a chunky flat bottom steering wheel with alcantara sides and AMG badging.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe will hit U.S. dealers in the Summer of 2016, however were willing to bet it will be on hand at the Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago and New York auto shows, so you’ll be able to get a good look at the car in no time.
