Famous Movie Cars To Hit Woodward Ave For Dream Cruise Weekend

There will be hoards of impressive classic cars on hand at this year’s Woodward Dream Cruise, however a few cars will more recognizable than others thanks to their big screen appearances over the years.

As The Detroit Free Press reports, several Detroit-area car enthusiasts collect and create movie vehicles like the Batmobile and the Dukes of Hazzard’s General Lee. Among them is Mel Guthrie, who owns The Monkeemobile from the 1960s TV show The Monkees and other movie-related cars.

“It’s fun to take these cars out and see people smile,” Guthrie told the Free Press. “People love it. None of us take it too seriously. We just try to keep the cars running and bring them out on the road so people can share our enjoyment. It’s a blast to see kids’ eyes light up as when they see these cars.”

Another car collector, Mark Marougi, will also have another famous car from Hollywood’s past out at Dream Cruise. Marougi will bring his Green Hornet from the TV show of the same name to the show, and is considering bringing his General Lee replica out as well.

If movie cars are what you’re looking for at Woodward Dream Cruise this weekend, Guthrie and some of peers are expected to park in front of the Redcoat Tavern at 31542 Woodward in Royal Oak, MI, on Saturday.
