Ford Performance Tears Up Grattan Raceway In A 2016 Shelby GT350R: Video

Before we ever made it out to Michigan’s Grattan Raceway to experience the new 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R in action, unbeknownst to us, Ford had brought a car out to do some high-quality shooting of their own. You can enjoy every nail-biting moment of that in the video embedded just below.

Of course, neither words nor video quite do the 2016 Shelby GT350R justice; calling the car “stratospherically capable” would be somehow selling it short. Yes, the roaring 5.2-liter V8 with its flat-plane crankshaft and lightweight internals revs high, revs quickly, and churns out a breathtaking 526 horsepower with no help whatsoever from any forced-induction. But what such descriptions leave out is a demonstration of how everything else on the car is sized to match.

The new Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang has mighty, 6-piston Brembo brake calipers at the front wheels, with 4-piston units out back. Front and rear rotors are both 2-piece, with diameters of 15.5 and 15 inches, respectively. Oh, and then there’s the brilliant MagneRide suspension system from supplier BWI, now in its third generation, which is privy to a reported 20 or so different variables – including vehicle speed, steering angle, brake and throttle application, wheel deflection rate, etc. – in deciding how and when to apply a charge to the magnetorheological fluid.

All said, the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang is a simply tremendous car. That much is evident from the footage:
