Robbie Maddison Goes All FMX-Messiah, Rides A Dirt Bike On The Ocean: Video

At Motrolix, we don’t very often cover motorized vehicles with less than four wheels; that topic tends to be rather beyond the scope of most automotive publications. When we do defy our own convention and cover a bike-related news item, you’d better believe it’s a compelling story.

On that note, DC Shoes just released a video which shows Australian motorbike stunt rider Robbie Maddison riding a dirt bike on the ocean just off the coast of Tahiti, in French Polynesia. We think that’s pretty freaking compelling.

The video was just released on August 2nd, and already, it has nearly 9 million views on YouTube (at the time of this writing). As we’re sure you can imagine, the dirt bike has been fitted with special, deep-tread tires, and there looks to be some sort of planar ski device affixed to the bike’s frame.

But whether this stunt required some special engineering sorcery or no, it’s absolutely insane to watch. Robbie Maddison doesn’t just keep to flat, shallow waters; late in the video, he rides out to meet some major waves, somehow managing to keep upright – and keep moving – in a truly epic fashion.

You can watch the DC Shoes “Pipe Dream” video with the unflappable Robbie Maddison right here:
