Scott Speed Signs Two Year Extension With Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross

Scott Speed has signed a contract extension with Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross to pilot the No. 41 Volkswagen Beetle GRC for two more Red Bull Global Rallycross seasons. The former Formula 1 driver currently sits sixth in the 2015 GRC standings and is hoping to climb through the ranks in the final five rounds of fast paced rally racing.

So far in 2015, Speed has second-place finishes at Detroit to his name, as well as a second-place finish at the season-opener in Fort Lauderdale. Additionally, he also earned his third consecutive X Games Gold Medal at Circuit of the Americas, marking the fifth time he’s won gold at the annual extreme sports event.

“I’m super excited to re-sign for another two years with Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross,” Speed said in a statement. “I’ve been lucky enough to be able to surround myself with an awesome crew and support team; everyone here feels like family.”

“My experience with the team over the last two years has been an amazing journey,” added Speed. “We’ve continued to make strides in the development of our program and we’re ready to begin to assert ourselves as the dominant team in this sport.”

A strong performance at the upcoming Red Bull Global Rallycross round in LA will be crucial for Speed in his championship bid. Speed won at LA last year, so he’ll be a force to reckon with when the series heads west for the event on September 12th and 13th.
