2017 Bentley Bentayga Officially Debuts Ahead Of Frankfurt Motor Show

The Bentley Bentayga SUV has officially broke cover ahead of its in-person debut at the coming Frankfurt Motor Show later this month. The automaker claims the Bentayga will be the “fastest, most powerful, most luxurious and most exclusive,” SUV in the world when it lands in Frankfurt, offering an effortless Bentley driving experience in a high-riding, spacious package.

We were first familiarized with the idea of a Bentley SUV with the EXP 9 F concept from the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The Bentayga looks a lot like the concept, wearing Bentley’s signature matrix grille and sporting the same ‘power line’ design element down its sides. Also like the EXP 9 F, it has a large standard glass panoramic sunroof that makes up almost 60 per cent of the total roof surface.

Under the hood you’ll find more familiar Bentley kit. The automaker’s new 6.0-liter W12 engine is present and produces 600 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 663 lb-ft of torque from 4,500 RPM. The engine boasts cylinder deactivation, both direct and indirect fuel injection and a start-stop system. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, it will hustle the Bentayga from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds before reaching a top speed of 187 mph – the highest stop speed for an SUV ever.

The Bentayga wouldn’t be a true Bentley without a super-luxurious cabin, and the SUV doesn’t disappoint in that regard. There’s 22-way leather seats with a 6-program massage system and heating and cooling ventilation, and 15-way seats out back if the four-seat interior configuration is chosen. Customers also have the choice of 15 leather colors, 15 luxurious carpet options and seven different handcrafted veneers.

Bentley didn’t go light on the technology front for the Bentayga, offering a suite of driver assistance and in-car entertainment systems. Bentley’s Drive Dynamics Mode and optional Responsive Off-Road Setting gives drivers the choice of eight on- and off-road modes, and there’s also satellite-aided Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control and Traffic Assist, systems which improve both comfort and fuel economy.

It doesn’t stop there. Within the dash is an eight-inch color touch screen with class-leading navigation technology and a 60GB hard drive, and back seat passengers may enjoy the removable 10.2-inch Android tablet. Three sound systems are also offered, with an 18-speaker Naim system being the range-topping choice.

If Bentayga customers wish for more exclusivity, they may have Bentley’s bespoke Mulliner arm make the SUV in nearly any exterior and interior color combination they desire. Eventually seven-seat, diesel and plug-in hybrid Bentayga variants will also be offered to give customers additional choices.
